Garden / carrots?

Our garden has grown like 3 vegetables that are ready to pick already, everything is pretty easy to tell when it's done, but I don't know how to tell when the carrots are done. Do you?

  1. if you don't want to pull out the carrot before its time, try this:

    follow the above ground greenery down to the soil level.  then gently remove the soil with your fingertip working outward from the stalk to reveal the top the carrot.  This will allow you to discern the diameter of the carrot, which should help you determine length.

    generally, i pick my carrots when the top has a diameter of about  one and a half inches, and the green "tops" are from about twelve to eighteen inches above the soil.


  2. You just have to pull one every once and a while to see how big it is. It also depends on how big you want your carrot.
