Just planted garden and stuff is coming up. Some leaves have holes in them. Do I have a critter? Should I fence the whole way around? Someone said p**s around it. Some said buy animal p**s and pour it around it. Some said use vinegar and spray around it, and some said just use some fencing. What is your view?

I weeded today. I have a 24' x 12' area planted with cucumbers, carrots, onions, beats, radishes, potatoes, radishes, broccoli, lima beans, chard, pole beans, bell peppers, halopeno peppers, zuchinni, tomatoes, and corn.

Any suggestions on thinning out the plants too? The onions look like grass growing in their spots.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

  1. Boo has it right..it is snails..I use sluggo in my garden for them..It is not unsafe to animals as most snail baits are..someone will suggest beer here..but it is alot of work replacing and refilling jar lids/containers all day every day...

  2. My first guess about holes in the leaves would be snails.  If it were a bigger critter, they would eat the leaves from the outside edge moving towards the stem and you would see half-eaten leaves.  But with holes, that suggests snails.

You can purchase snail bait from your garden store and follow instructions on the box.
