Gardeners: Are there disadvantages to over feeding flowers and vegetables?

Is it possible to fertilized "too" often? Can this cause problems for the plant?

  1. Yes, to much of anything is not good. You might have great looking plants that have no fruit.


  2. yes, over feeding is bad, do not get it too concentrated, and always water at the base of the plant or it will burn the leaves, petals if it touches them. it is also best to flush the pland with every other watering, this gets any toxins out of the soil. i am guessing you probably know what i am talking about, but if not, flushing means water it until the water poars out the base of the plant. don't let it stil in a basin of it's own water when you do this or it will be pointless......

  3. Over fertilizing can stop flowering plants from flowering because the plant is trying to make new leaves from the fertilizing (too much nitrogne) and stops producing flowers to save energy.

  4. over-fertilization kills.... ever see where some fella got too heavy with the lawn fertilizer and ended up with stripes in his lawn from the fertilizer burning the grass?...... same deal....
