Question:

Gardenias as a bouquet?

I'm just now starting to plan, but the first thing that came to my mind was using gardenias for the bouquet/ decorations. I really love the white and dark green combination, so it would make a great color scheme I think. However, I know that gardenias turn brown very easily, and I'm not quite sure what month they usually flower in. I'd like to have a general idea of whether gardenias are usable before I talk to any florists...

  1. They will smell so good! I hope you can use them!

  2. Gardenias are indeed very fragile and usually bloom in late spring/early summer. I would look into using fake flowers. Gardenias are easy to find, and would be alot easier to handle, not to mention less expensive.

  3. Luckily for you, gardenias are available for wedding bouqets year round and they are relatively inexpensive.  I personally think they would make a beautiful bouquet.  I honestly haven't seen anyone do dark green and white but I think it is a great idea, very unique.  Best of luck!

  4. A florist would be the best person to tell you whether or not to use gardenias. I would advise that you talk with them. You could call around to a few flower shops and see what they have to say.

Here is some info I was able to find out:

Blooms in mid-spring to early summer, over a fairly long season: this is not a bloom-all-at-once-and-it’s-over shrub! Flowers are white, turning to creamy yellow as they age, and have a waxy feel. They have a powerful, sweet fragrance, and can perfume an entire room. Air currents waft the scent throughout the warm summer garden
