I have been working on rebuilding my rock garden. I have gotten the paper and plastic laid out and was ready to put the rocks back in the garden. My husband says that the rocks need to be cleaned of dirt so that new weeds do not grow from the dirt. Is thie really necessary?

  1. You're being kidded!Buy hubby a nice stiff wire brush and ask him to show you how to clean 'em.

  2. I would think you would have had to leave a lot of dirt on the rocks for very many weeds to grow.  And if something actually does sprout it would be a simple thing to pull it.  Maybe your husband could clean the rocks for you.

  3. TRUST ME!!!!  Weeds will grow in even a hint of soil!  When I put down barrier cloth to rock and plant over, I very am very careful not to get any dirt on top of the cloth!  I cut an X where I am going to dig the hole.  I carefully peel the X back and I dig the soil out of the hole and put it on a plastic bag.  After I finish planting, I use water to wash the barrier cloth off and water the plant in.  The ONLY good thing about weeds that do grow in this dusting of dirt is that they are very easy to pull, but who wants to pull  ???
