  1. I commenced my career in horticulture at 151/2 years of age in 1970 as an apprentice gardener

Priorly my interest in gardening was kindled during my early primary years

I suggest taking them to a botanical garden which like a zoo is a living document of plants. A properly founded botanical garden should  educate visitors about the culinary - medicinal + economical value plants provide to our everyday existence.

    logon to:

    www.rhs.org.uk - [royal horticultural society]

www.rbge.org.uk  [royal botanical garden edinburgh (scotland)

where you should be able to find  a mass of valuable information and links for young people

  2. make it a business opportunity!  sell the veggies or plants or bouquets of flowers.  use the money for a trip for the kids.

a little ROI might inspire them  :)

  3. Kids love competition.  Make it a contest.  It can be largest harvest or largest specimen.  If your kids are civic minded that may interest them in feeding certain needy segments of their local area.

  4. Difficult age to interest kids in gardening. If you have community gardens in your area maybe they could get a plot there or assist other people who are gardening in the plots. Good luck, you're going to need it.

  5. I tried this for a school age group at daycare. They were interested in planting it but not taking care of it. The younger ones had more fun with it than the 13/14 yr olds.

  6. Im 19, i have 2 veg patches and a herb patch.

My mum always envolved me when i was a kid when she was gardening and sewing seeds.

And always made a big thing when the veg or fruit was ready to harvest.

    Hope this helps
