Question:

Gardening help! 900 sq foot hill?

I have a 900 sq foot hill. We tore out all the weeds and are trying to figure out what to plant there to cover it up. There is no shade on the hill. Also, the soil is very clay like. We tried English Ivy and the deer and rabbits ate most of it. I would like something that spreads fast and looks decent. Any thoughts or links would be great!

Also the hill is the start of deep woods. So something that critters won't be interested in eating.

  1. Your grandmas' grandmas' favorite, and still the best ground cover......Pachysandra.

It is evergreen, about 8" tall, maybe 10" in bloom. Spreads underground, does not climb up walls or other plants. Covers fairly quickly. Is best in shade, but tolerates sun if it gets some water.

Neither Deer, Rabbitts, nor voles like it.

I use it on woody banks all the time, under Dogwoods, and it is generally my first choice for a ground cover. It is actually a member of the mint family, but not sloppy.

    Pachysandra Terminallis
