Gardening help/tips?

I love my grandparents so much and I want to help them out this summer. I volunteered to do the front yard/porch.

The 3 of us both live in Indiana, PA and the house is a one-leveled old (1952) farm house. The house is close to a major highway.

I need help and tips for gardening and help with their front porch. (It is a stone-covered porch.)

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and there is no garage but there is an old half gravel and half paved driveway. Help will also be greatly appreciated.

They also rent so please make sure it could be nothing major unless the owner lets us do it. Thank you!

  1. What about hanging baskets and pots on the steps and on each side of the door?  That will give you a lot of color fast!

If it's a sunny location, marigolds, zinnias, gazinnias, snap dragons and a ton of others will do well.  Shade is good for impatiens and some pansies.  Read the tags that come in the plants and go from there.

I don't use anything link Miracle Grow to feed my plants.  I use fish oil emulsion; it's organic and doesn't create salt build up that Miracle Grow can.  It's a bit smelly for a couple of hours after you use it but that doesn't last long and the plants just love it!

If someone you know has a bunch of hostas that need thinned, they would look nice along the drive and around the base of the porch.  Hostas will do well in a variety of conditions.

    Good Luck!
