okay so we planted cabbage this year, we never grew it before. and were having problems with some kind of worm lookin things eating it, we picked them all off and threw them far into the woods but more of them came to it and there are really big holes in the leaves, we dont want to use any bug killing stuff becuz we want to be able to eat the cabbage and not worry about getting poisoned, is there any way to make a homemade natural spray or something to keep bugs off of a garden? somebody told me vinegar but im not sure if it would work, help please.

thanx

  1. Sounds like you are having a problem with the Cabbage Looper. The best organic solution you can use on leaf eating worms is a product called "BT" (bacillus thuringiensis). It is safe and non-toxic to humans. It is a powder which you sprinkle onto the veggies and when eaten by worm or Caterpillar varieties, paralyzes the stomach lining causing them to starve to death. They basically stop eating after ingesting this product. You can pick BT up at most garden centers for a pretty cheap price. Here is a link with a little info on this product. Hope this answers your question...

  2. No, not vinegar.  Vinegar will kill plants and is used to kill grass and weeds.  You can make a mild solution of soapy water using a mild dish detergent to spray on the plants.  This will help deter some bugs.  You can buy insecticidal soap which is an organic solution for controlling insect pests.
