Gardening question, dead plant?

I have this plant that is dying but is also sprouting some new little plants around it... whats the best way to re-plant the new little ones that sprouted up in it without killing them? i have tried it once b4 with a hand shovel and placed them in a new pot but they died...

  1. Some plants just cannot take to transplanting like others can. Since you have already tried with the newly sprouted plants I would let them grow till they were a little stronger and try transplanting then.


  2. Dont transplant too soon. Cut the dead momma down to let sun light in.

  3. It would depend on what plant it is.  But generally to make sure it lives, you will need to have some roots attached to the new baby plants.  

  4. Wait until they are larger then when you tried it before.  Also,  with about half the small pups;  drive a spade or hand trowel into the ground between the pups and the dying plant.  This should sever all connection with the "mother ship" and force the small pups to put out new roots.  

    I just mentioned to try it on half of them and you can run a test to see if they survive the transplanting better then the other pups.  After all, if they survive you will be doing this again with them.
