Gareth Bale aims to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo
Tottenham Hotspur attacker Gareth Bale says that he is aiming to follow in the footsteps of another star winger, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, in a bid to fend off increased attention on the pitch.
Bale had looked to be on his way out of Spurs over the summer after a season which saw him left out of the first-team for extended periods of time.
However, he has put in a series of outstanding performances for the English Premier League club which have seen the 21-year-old being hailed as one of the finest left-sided players on the planet.
As a result of his new-found status — which was reinforced with a sensational hat-trick against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League — Bale is likely to come in for special attention from other teams.
Ronaldo also has to deal with such situations, as opposition players often double up on the Portugal international to try and stop him.
Added attention
However, the Welshman is adamant that he will be able to cope with the added attention, and claims that he wants to continue improving his game to become ‘unstoppable’.
He told reporters that: "Obviously teams are trying to stop me in a way, and obviously I've got to think of other ways to get past them. I'm going to have to keep learning in training and in games and try things and hopefully improve as a player which will
allow me to do that [continue to thrive].
"And I think with all the world-class players these days, the likes of Ronaldo, teams double up on him all the time and he still finds a way. And, I think, as a player, you've got to keep trying to improve your game and make it an all-round game to kind of
be unstoppable."
