Gareth Bale delighted with performance against Inter Milan
Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale says that he was over the moon after helping the English Premier League side grab a memorable 3-1 victory over European champions Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
The sides met at White Hart Lane in the group stage of the competition on Tuesday, 2 November, and Bale delivered another outstanding performance, following on from his hat-trick in the 4-3 loss against Inter in the previous match.
The 21-year-old Welshman caused havoc on the left side of the pitch as he tormented Brazilian defender Maicon Douglas Sisenando, widely regarded as the finest right-back in the world, and set up Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko to wrap up the win after Rafael
van der Vaart’s opener.
Bale told reporters that it was a night he would never forget. He said that: "It was great. It was special beating the European champions. It will be a night that will never be forgotten.
“I'm just trying to keep my feet on the ground, work hard in training and do well in games and enjoy my football. I'm happy at the moment.
'We had belief we could hurt Inter'
“We all had the belief that we could hurt Inter and we showed that. We were unlucky to go down to 10 in the San Siro. With 11 men on the pitch, we know what we can do. We know what we are capable of. We just have to produce it and we have.
"Hopefully, we will have shown people what we can do and hopefully we can go far in this competition now. We are just going to take it one step at a time and not get carried away."
The attacker also hailed his club’s fans for their backing. The Spurs faithful started chanting for a “taxi for Maicon”, such was the extent of the right-back’s failure to deal with the marauding runs of Bale.
He added that: "A few of the lads were (talking about the chant) after the match. The supporters were unbelievable. They acted as a 12th man. They have been fantastic all season and we capped it off for them tonight. It was a special night."
