Gareth Bale rejoices ‘special’ win over Arsenal
Gareth Bale commented on the triumph over Arsenal in the north-London derby. Tottenham Hotspur had not recorded a win at Arsenal since 1993, and the record did not seem to be breaking when Spurs went two goals down before the half-time
whistle. First half goals from Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh seemed enough to earn 3 points for the Gunners when the teams headed for the interval.
However, an inspirational comeback from Tottenham was witnessed in the second half.
Gareth Bale struck past the Arsenal goalkeeper to score Spurs’ 1st of the match, as he latched on to a through ball from Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman was again on the act when he successfully converted from the
spot-kick to bring the scores level. Tottenham’s comeback was completed when a header from Younes Kaboul, from a Van der Vaart free kick, earned the visitors a dramatic victory.
Gale was elated with the win. After the game he said, “Yes, there were some great celebrations at the final whistle. As they say, for the fans and everybody in North London it was the one game that everyone looks out for so to
get the three points, especially at the Emirates, is something special. The gaffer said before the game that we have a great squad and a great team and we are here to match anybody. We obviously went out and didn't have the greatest of first halves but we
showed what we were capable of in the second half. It was a great comeback and we got the three points in the local derby. It was a fantastic win.”
Van der Vaart was equally delighted by the result, but urged his teammates to keep their feet firmly on the ground and concentrate on the coming fixtures.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger was disconsolate after the loss, and defined it as “painful”. Wenger was not pleased with his team’s defending as they lost concentration and let in 3 goals in the 2nd half.
He said, “When you look at what we created and what Tottenham created today, it is difficult to understand how we lost the game, we lost our focus and we were punished for it. We made basic mistakes.”
Gunners are now in 3rd place in the English Premier League table, 2 points behind Chelsea and Manchester United.
