Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman has assured spurs fans that Welshman Gareth Bale is not for sale.
Bale has been attracting a lot of attention from Europe’s top clubs following a string of stunning performances, particularly in the Champions League.
The 21-year-old midfielder has scored 9 goals so far this season, including a hat-trick against Inter Milan at the San Siro. Comparisons are already being made between him and Barcelona star Lionel Messi. The Spurs Chairman is aware of the interest in Bale
and has rejected the idea of the club cashing in on their rising star.
Levy said, “I've never deemed us to be a selling club if you look at the big transfers which have taken place since I've been chairman. Gareth has got a long contract and I can assure you he will not be sold.”
Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick were both sold in recent years, but Levy said their cases were different. He said that both Berbatov and Carrick had two years left on their contracts and both wanted to leave. Gareth Bale announced early in November
that he is committed to Tottenham for the remainder of his 4 year contract.
While the Chairman rejected the idea of selling the Welsh star, he did concede that the Spurs squad needs trimming. Tottenham currently have the largest squad in the Premier League and Levy is considering the possibility of selling a few players in the January
transfer window.
Tottenham acquired Gareth Bale from Southampton in May 2007. Under manager Harry Redknapp, the Welshman has improved exponentially and is currently considered as one of Europe’s most talented properties.
Bale plays as a left winger. His speed, physicality and game sense have earned him universal praise this season. Daniel Levy has guaranteed Tottenham fans that Gareth Bale will remain at White Hart Lane, but many of Europe’s top clubs will still be keeping
a close eye on the Welsh winger in the coming months.
