Gareth Barry believes Manchester City should play more defensively in the Champions League
Manchester City midfielder and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 seems to feel that City need to take a far more defensive approach when playing games in the Champions League.
City have so far had a rather good start to their season and have been doing exceptionally well in the Premier League. City have so far managed to win every single one of their Premier League games and have managed to score fifteen goals along the way.
However, the team found it considerably harder to participate in the Champions League, as the team went on to draw at home to Napoli, in their first ever Champions League match.
Barry seems to feel that there is a considerable difference in the style of play in the Champions League as compared to the Premier League and he is quoted to have said: “There are a lot of things we have learned. It was a different style of game to what
we are used to in the Premier League.”
“We have started the Premier League very well but this is a different style of game, it just doesn't happen like that.
However, despite that fact Barry has gone on to admit that the game that the challenge that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 put up, was exactly what City had been expecting and that is why they didn’t get a little too overwhelmed by their Italian opponents.
“We got exactly the sort of game we expected; they defended very well and we knew about their counter-attacking style.”
The player then highlighted the fact that going all out and attacking the opposition wasn’t always going to be an option. As a result, the midfielder feels that it would be a whole lot better if the team tries to hold on to their lead and defends the ball
every now and then.
“But we have to be wary of attacking in numbers as we do at home and we are going to have to adapt from the way we play in the Premier League because it is a completely different game.”
Barry seems to me making some sense with his words and his suggestions for the team. However, despite that fact it is highly unlikely for City to be able to contain their own attack. The team possesses some of the best attackers in the world and as long
as they can connect and keep producing some brilliant performances, then City need not worry about defending their lines, since their opponents might not be given an opportunity to take the game to the Citizens.
