Gareth Kean claims Men’s 200m backstroke gold – Swimming news
Gareth Kean of New Zealand claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on the second day of the 2013 Mare Nostrum Circuit in Canet, France on Sunday, June 16.
Kean dictated terms to his opponents in the four-lap backstroke discipline as he transpired on the finishing end as the top fastest swimmer.
With his immaculate efforts, Kean showed no mercy to his challengers and emerged on the finishing end for gold medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 59.12 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Benjamin Stasiulis of France, who was only 0.67 seconds slower and tapped the wall for silver medal by posting an effort of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds.
Yannick Lebherz and Felix Wolf of Germany, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck race for third place, chased the second best finisher. Both swimmers remained engaged in a stiff competition throughout the race and despite of their unrelenting efforts,
failed to escape each other over the finishing wall.
They remained only 0.08 seconds slower from Stasiulis and tapped the wall for bronze medal with identical timings of 1 minute and 59.87 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was secured by Yakov Yan Toumarkin of Israel, who was half a body length slower from upsetting his preceding finishers and settled on the finishing end by producing a time of 2 minutes and 00.42 seconds.
Subsequently, Toumarkin was chased by Pedro Luis Medel Aguilera of Cuba, who was 2.37 seconds apart and made his way towards the finishing end for sixth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 02.79 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Ricky Ellis of South Africa, who was 1.40 seconds away from improving his position as he ended his race in a time of 2 minutes and 04.19 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was secured by Lukas Rauftlin of Switzerland, who remained nearly half body length behind and finished his race in a time of 2 minutes and 04.61 seconds.
In addition, Kean was happy with his top finish in the race while the winners gathered medal after the event.
