Gareth Raynor thanks Daily Star for their contributions in fighting his dark phase
Gareth Raynor, former Bradford Bulls player, has expressed his gratitude towards the Daily Star for helping him break free from the shackles of frustration after the sacking by Bulls.
Earlier on, the player shared during an exclusive interview session conducted by the same newspaper that he survived a suicide attempt he had tried in lieu of the looming depression, which had pushed him to such extreme measures.
He also revealed that he was addicted to sleeping pills and drinking while he was burdened under financial crisis. However, his fiancé, the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the Sporting Chance Clinic, pulled him out of his down phase to gear him back to life.
In addition, Rayon shared that the story covered by the mentioned newspaper was very inspiring for him as he actually mustered up courage to fight his problems with a brave heart, instead of getting bogged down under the undue pressures of the outside world.
While talking about the story covered in paper, Rayon clarified the widely prevalent confusions and said, “People think I did the story for money, but I didn’t get paid and that was never my reason for doing it. I did it because I wanted to let other players
know that they shouldn’t be scared about going to find help if they need it. Since the story I’ve been told that several other players have been in touch with Sporting Chance and that makes me feel miles better, knowing that I’ve helped somebody in some way.
Players of all ages have problems and quite often they don’t know how to deal with things.”
He further added that he is aware of the agony, which may also have been faced by many others as well. In his case that grew so bad that it went of control. Without his partner’s assistant along with that of the RFL and Sporting Chance’s, he would not have
been able to make it to this day.
He wants people to learn from his experience and get help as soon as possible, before it is too late. It will be interesting to see how well other troubled players respond to the player’s call, who is all set to venture back to his life.
