St. Lucia’s leg-spinner, Garey Mathurin, has been confirmed on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Twenty20 (T20) squad in place of off-spinner, Ashley Nurse, who is said to have not been complying with the fitness requirements of his team, which is scheduled to tour England
for a 2-match T20 series, scheduled to kick off on September 23, 2011 at the Kennington Oval, London.
“I see this as an opportunity given to me to represent the people of the Caribbean and I’m looking to have a good tour,” said Mathurin.
The 27-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lynette-Ann-Fullston-c73358 also added that he looks forward to working with the coach and the team, as well as will do his best to be the right fit on the squad.
Mathurin, who is also set to make his International T20 debut in the upcoming fixture, stands confident for delivering a strong bowling performance which he believes will come through his ability to restrict the batsman from scoring quick runs.
“In T20 cricket it’s all about looking to get runs as quickly as possible so the aim of the bowler is to keep the batsmen in check and restrict the scoring. My main asset is my ability to keep it tight and build pressure on the batsmen. I see this as my
job in the team. Also, I know I have to contribute with the bat and I'm always looking to see what I can do to contribute to the team,” added Mathurin.
Mathurin also revealed that he is also excited to have his fellow St Lucian, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 on the team, citing that he has known the player for a long time and has also had the chance to play alongside Sammy in the Under-19 level and the senior level for
St Lucia and the West Indies.
With his International premier right around the corner, Mathurin has already earned some impressive A-Class cricket stats, playing 12 T20 matches and 11 first-class games, out of which the bowler has secured 40 wickets, including an exceptional best performance
of 7 for 72.
The Windies will be playing their first match against the English hosts on September 23, in London, followed by the series finale on September 25.
