  1. Although it is helpful as a medicine it is said to contain more than 20 harmful toxins. Try searching on that. I don't know the detail. It is contra-indicated for yogis and for meditation. The 'toxins' agitate the mind too much. Moderation may help.

My Ayurvedic herb book says-Precautions: hyperacidity, toxic heat in the blood, high Pitta(if your constitution is that of fire in Ayurveda then it is not good)

It is tamasic which means it increases dullness in the mind. And it agitates the reproductive organs too much.

It is very heating so doesn't do well for everyone. Some don't need extra heat. It is grounding for those who do.

  2. I wouldn't take so much garlic because it's pointless.  Though it's not really going to be harmful to you unless you have an allergy to it.  Though it is commonly used as a laxative so therefore that's the reason that happens to you.  Though to get the best benefits from garlic, take whole fresh cloves and bake them in the oven in olive oil and put some salt and lime on it and eat away, it's very good and has much more of a laxative effect and much quicker.  It is also very good for purifying the blood and killing lots of bacteria in your body.  Though I wouldn't take that much of it unless you find yourself stuck in some anne rice novel.

  3. You're better off eating real garlic, not the odorless type. It works best if you crush up a few cloves and let it sit for 20 minutes before using. It shouldn't harm you at only 500mg per day. My guess is that something in the tablets is upsetting your stomach. Try the real stuff.

  4. I tried (unsuccessfully) to find Holland & Barret website to see what form this is you've been taking. Obviously you have a sensitivity to it, which is not terribly uncommon. If you are taking oil capsules, I would say take a different form. Also the "odourless" part may be contributing to your suffering as it is sometimes achieved by adding peppermint or parsley or both. I would say take garlic cloves instead. Dice them into a bit of vinegar or lemon juice and swallow; take no more than one clove a day. Then again, you may just be one of those unfortunate few who can't take it. There are other things that work well as antibiotics, including Goldenseal Root powder and Colloidal Silver.

Here are some common side effects of garlic:

headache, itching, garlic odor on breath and skin, occasional allergic reactions, stomach disorders and diarrhea, decrease in serum protein and calcium levels, association with bronchial asthma, and contact dermatitis. Read more here: http://www.zhion.com/GARLIC.html

  5. Garlic is very good for you as you already know. Use it in its natural  state. I add it to almost everything I eat Pizza, stir fry dishes, vegatables I crush it into salads, the possibilities are endless

  6. ayurveda says that garlic increases sperm quantity and quickens ejaculation.

it also makes the mind moving slower, but steadier.

it may produce water and toxin retention.

  7. Only in Western Countries people eat raw, crushed Garlic. It causes stomach problems, heart burning etc and if not properly peeled, the thin skin can cause severe diarrhea. In India, we fry properly peeld Galic cloves in clarified butter(oil)-ghee- to golden yellow colour and mix it with food and eat.Upto 500 mg fried Garlic, nothing happens to us.Garlic extract 500mg may be several times of raw garlic and it may cause problems.
