I have a severe ear infection that is beginning to spread to my right ear. I went to the hospital and the prescribed some meds, but my insurance would not pay for them they are about $300. I had to get the generic brand which does not seem to be helping. NeWay, I have read about using garlic juice to help with swelling and pain, but I only have garlic powder. Is there anyway to change garlic powder into garlic juice so that the pain can go away. Please Help me it hurts so so bad I can't even sleep.

  1. call the hospital and ask them to give you something else. amoxicilan (sp) should cure that, and its very cheap.  genetic brands are not always the least expensive.  you need the meds pls. dont mess around with this you could lose your hearing.

  2. No, there is no way to turn garlic powder into garlic juice.  I mean you can put garlic powder into olive oil, let it steep or infuse for a day and then strain it, but garlic/olive oil ear oil is intended to be made from fresh garlic, only.  It's just not going to work as well from dried garlic powder, and straining the garlic powder lees out of the mix is going to be a pain, if it even works.  You'll need cheese cloth and an extremely fine mesh strainer, or better yet a coffee filter and a strainer.  Fresh garlic can be had for under a buck, definitely under two bucks.  In the meantime, these are some things you can do:  1)  Do you have any tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary or thyme essential oil on hand?  If you do, gently heat up about a 1/4 c. olive oil and add approx. 10 drops of any of these essential oils to the olive oil.  Do NOT let it get too hot.  Take a dropper, like that from a 1 oz. tincture bottle, and put some of this medicated, warmed oil into your ear.  2)  Eat TONS of fresh garlic.  Cayenne would only be helpful in healing/clearing this condition, too.  3)  Alternate hot and cold compresses on your ear.  If you simply cannot manage the cold, go ahead and use only the hot compresses, but the alternating heat and cold is a really good thing.  4)  Take Vick's Vaporub, and rub it all over the soles of your feet.  Put socks on.  Rub the Vick's all over the space behind your ear.  You will feel a boney ridge here.  This is the place I am talking about, in back of your ear.  Go to bed with your heating pad or hot water bottle over the affected ear.  Sleep as well as you can.  This all should help.  5)  All of these are "at home measures".  It is possible for an ear ache (otitis media) to become so severe, so quickly, that you really MUST either return to your doctor, or go to the ER.  You'll know when this is by the pain.  In the meantime, an electric heating pad, or the kind of heating pad one heats up in the microwave can help immensely in reducing the pain in your ear, and in keeping the medicated oil hot enough to do some actual good in your body.  Eliminate all dairy from your diet, and sip on things like fresh ginger tea.  6)  Go to the healthfood store and buy either a bottle of Wally's Ear Oil, or Mullein Garlic Oil.  Keep it on hand, for such situations as this one.  It's an important part of any herbal medicine chest.  So are tea tree, eucalyptus and lavender essential oils.
