Garmin-Cervelo sign the experienced Allan Peiper for the coming seasons – Cycling News
The former road cyclist Allan Peiper has signed a two year deal with team Garmin-Cervelo after the termination of HTC-Highroad. Allan has a tremendous amount of experience in the sport as he has finished five Tour de France races with the last one in 1992.
He joined HTC-Highroad in 2007 and served the team for four years which had been the most successful years for the team in terms of the overall wins. His contract with the team is expiring by the end of 2011 and he has accepted an offer from Garmin-Cervelo
and will be seen in action in their camp.
Allan is considered as one of the most talented sports director, recruiter, coordinator and rider in the sports and he will be moving to the European headquarters of team Garmin in Spain in the next season.
Jonathan Vaughters who is the CEO and the director sportif of team Garmin was handling the load of Matt White along with performing his own duties after Matt was dismissed by the team earlier this year. His patience has finally paid off as he has found the
right man on the permanent basis. With team HTC discontinuing their operations Allan Peiper was the best option for Vaughters as he was interested in hiring the Australian for a long time as he told a famous cycling website. He mentioned that the he did not
wanted to get in the way of Highroad and has waited for the right time, he is very happy with the inclusion of 51-year-old in the team.
Vaughters added, “Allan will manage the rider’s schedule, helping me manage the group as a whole and help with the logistics. Obviously he’ll be in the car at key events as well and more than anything else he’ll work at making sure that the communications
between the directors and the riders is really top notch.”
Peiper is also looking forward to his new bonding with the team and is ready to share his experiences as he mentioned that he has learnt a lot in the previous years and believes that team Garmin is very much similar to HTC as they share the same philosophy
towards the sport.
Allan believes that moving to team Garmin was an ideal opportunity that he has availed and is looking forward towards that new chapter in his well structured and experienced journey of life.
