Question:

Garnishment Laws In Georgia?

I hope you can help me with this question. If not, thanks anyway. I was served with garnishment papers several months ago about a credit card debt. I replied to the attorney through the court here in Gibson via certified mail. I asked for some kind of proof that I had this card debt. The only reply I received is that I signed for a credit card. I sent several certified letters asking the attorney for something, as in an application or individual bills that I signed. No reply. I have no knowledge of this debt. I have had 2 small strokes and I have no job. laid off last week. Anyway a judge in Thomson signed an order for garnishment. My ex employer called me, plus I received another certified letter stating that I would be garnished. I am now in a position that if I can get another job I will be garnished. That will be the end of that job. Any help with an answer will ne most appreciated.

  1. You can check this website out...   http://www.bcsalliance.com/debt1_georgia...   This will explain the judgement laws in Georgia. If you are not working right now...they can't get anything, though they can try for a bank account and garnish there if they can't find your employment. Now, if you do go back to work an employer cannot fire you for having a garnishment. I'm not sure of your circumstances or debt, but, the only thing that will stop a garnishment from happening is filing a bankruptcy and/or paying the garnishment off.
