Garreth Carvell is still not sure of his position in English side - Rugby League
While talking to reporters on Wednesday, November 16, Garreth Carvell, who played as Gareth Elllis’ replacement in last weekend’s game against the Kiwis, shared uncertainty over his place within the finalised English side.
England is all geared up to bring home the pride of the Four Nations title this year, which is now just a single game away. The only hurdle between England and their Four Nations’ dream is the series’ favourites, Australia. Australia strong showing so far
may jeopardise England’s chances of wrapping up the Gillette Four Nations at Elland Road, in Leeds, on Saturday, November 19, on a winning note.
Carvell, who appeared for the first time in last weekend’s game as Ellis’ replacement, savoured a 28-6 whitewash of the Kiwis. However, despite the sudden death win, his chances of making it to the English line-up are bleak, as Ellis has recovered fully
from his back injury.
Commenting on making his comeback for his on-field position for series’ final game, Carvell stated, "I've been prepared to play every week. It's a bit difficult to do it but I more or less told myself on the Monday that I'd be playing and put my head on.
I would have liked a bit more time but to be on pitch playing is what I wanted. I've achieved that and hopefully I'll be in again this week. Steve has kept the same 17 so he can get combinations going and I think it's worked.”
Carvell, 30, explained that those players who could not make it in the English line-up, should not be underestimated because they are also putting in extra efforts, including added fitness routines. Given the tough drills in practice, the players are eligible
to play for the English side because they are all prepared to deliver the best.
He acknowledged that they have been out of practice for good six to seven weeks, which dampened their chances of making into the final pick. However, the trainings provided by the conditioners is so tough that the players are as much ready as regular players.
