Garrett Mock falters against St. Louis Cardinals, Corey Brown recuperating from ankle problem
The Washington Nationals are in the mix for the National League East challenge in the 2011 Major League Baseball season.
They have the right assortment of players this season and Spring Training has provided the chance to develop the current list of stars.
In their recent game against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Grapefruit League, Jordan Zimmermann proved his worth as he only allowed 4 hits in the game.
However, Garret Mock, who also pitched in the game performed terribly in the encounter. The Nationals also had an injured player to talk about.
Corey Brown, who’s out on with an ankle injury is making progress and he’s expected to come into the League on Saturday, against the Yankees.
In the 7–5 loss to the Cards, Mock was disappointing. He conceded five runs in his outing. Pitching coach, Steve McCatty, was very disappointed by the situation.
Mock allowed the first run in the 2/3 inning. Furthermore, he conceded three walks in the game. Though there wasn’t defensive support for the pitcher, the coach went on to say that he should have handled the situation better.
"He got behind, walked a few guys. When you put those extra guys on base, something happens and it costs you big-time," McCatty said. "He was just a little bit too fine. You have to convince yourself that you are going to put the ball in play. Things happen
in the game. An error might happen, but still, you have to make pitches after that. I know he was trying to make pitches, but he didn't get the ball where he wanted it to go".
Manager, Jim Riggleman, on the other hand, had a chance to talk about outfielder, Corey. The injured player will feature against the New York Yankees soon in Tampa, Florida, as he’s recuperating in Viera.
"It's a typical sprained ankle", Riggleman said. "He is from Tampa. I was hoping to take him there so he could play, but he is not going to be ready by Saturday".
Brown had injured his ankle in the Grapefruit League game against the New York Mets on Tuesday.
