Garrett Reynolds continues BMX Street domination at X Games Barcelona – X Games news
America’s Garrett Reynolds claimed top honours at the X Games BMX Street final that went down at Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday, May 19, 2013.
Dominating the event since its debut in 2008, Reynolds collected his sixth consecutive gold medal after finishing on top during the high-intensity final, leaving Germany’s Bruno Hoffmann and America’s Stevie Churchill to settle for a silver and bronze medal
respectively.
“I was just trying to concentrate and just remember what I wanted to do because it's real easy to get lost out there,” Reynolds said. “Everyone being here, all my friends supporting everything got me hyped to ride.”
The 22-year-old American seems to understand the expectations of the judges and crowd from the BMX Street event like no other. With the deadly combination of unmatchable skills and boundless innovation lying in his arsenal, Reynolds has been consistently
creating magic at X Games, the biggest stage of action sports.
Pitted against five extremely talented riders, namely Hoffman, Churchill, Chad Kerley, Simone Barraco and Jeremiah Smith, Reynolds clearly had his work cut out.
However, the undisputed king of X Games BMX Street wasted no time in asserting his dominance over his rivals by landing not one, not two, but three sensational runs.
Making use of the many features of the course, he pulled off a series of technical combos, which included a bar-spin to backward crooked grind on the flat bar, along with breath-taking tricks such as rail ride to tail-whip, nollie bar-spin 180 down the stairs
and bar-spin to ice-pack down the rail.
Earning a 42.00 and 41.00 off his best two runs, Reynolds finished with a combined total of 83.00, which proved more than sufficient to seal the fate of the final in his favour.
Hoffmann took home the boasting rights for posting the highest single-run score of the day, a 43.00, after landing a run that featured a half Cab and full Cab combination, technical manual lines and tricks such as feeble grind to hard 180 out on the Hubba
ledge.
The German rider, however, failed to back it up with an equally superb run. Scoring a 36.00 off his second-best run, he finished with a combined total of 79.00 points, thus taking home the silver medal.
Churchill scored a 40.00 and 38.00 off his best-two runs to finish with a combined total of 78.00 points. While his performance during the final was not something that really stood-out, it was more than enough to land him in third place and earn him a bronze
medal.
