Garrett Wilson silences Andres Taylor by knocking his senses out in the 12th round - Boxing News
During the epic 12-round bout, Garrett Wilson successfully defended his USBA and NABF cruiserweight titles by collecting an impressive and somewhat intimidating 12th round knockout win over Andres Taylor, the former World Boxing Foundation All Americas cruiserweight
champion, in a bout held on April 14, 2012.
The above bout headlined the event promoted by J Russell Peltz of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Incorporation and the ring for the event was stretched at Bally’s Event Center situated in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States.
Wilson, 29, was entering the bout with a bit disadvantage. Garrett was entering in his career’s 19th bout and boasted just 12 wins with seven of them via knockout. The Philadelphia proud is known as one of the best pounder in the cruiserweight division and
was on a six-bout win streak.
His recent interactions and training session with men such as Eddie Cambers really paid off and from the very first round the whole ring and the arena witnessed Wilson pummel Taylor by his heavy-duty jabs.
Andres, 33, was entering in his career’s 24th bout and possessed a bit decent resume than Wilson’s. Despite that, Taylor was unable to capitalise and he lost his senses after the passage of two minutes and 50 seconds of the 12th round.
Wilson, also known as ‘The Ultimate Warrior’, subjugated Taylor and did not allow him to use his reach advantage. It was this reason why Andres had to come up closer to throw and connect a powerful punch.
But whenever Taylor came within Wilson’s reach the latter’s agility and powerful jabs received the former with great force and might. The duo challenged each other well but it was Wilson who rose at the occasion and defied not only the experience but reach,
knockout and various other significant odds.
After the bout, the proud owner of the dual titles, Wilson commented, “Like I said I believe I won the first time but this time we on neutral ground. I believe it came out the way it should have the first time.”
It must be noted that this was the second time that the duo met in the ring. In their first one-on-one collision, the bout ended via split decision with no man winning it. Afterwards, Taylor propagated that he was the better man denoting Wilson as the loser.
With this win, Garrett has proved that he overshadows Taylor in the sport of boxing and literally silenced him via a clear knockout win. Even after the win, the modest Wilson commented, “He’s a tough guy, really tough guy. I didn’t expect anything less than
a tough fight from him. But I knew by who I was training with. I been working with a lot of good guys. Yusaf Mack, Dhafir Smith, Eddie Chambers, Steve Cunningham himself. I been working hard. Trying to get me the IBF next.”
Wilson now has 13 wins in a total 19 bouts and Andres ‘Taylor Made’ has collected his second loss and first ever by KO.
