Garry O'Connor wants new Birmingham City contract
Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor says he wants to sign a new contract with the club but hasn't been made an offer.
The 27-year-old Scot was given a six-month contract over the summer because Birmingham officials said they were not convinced over the player's fitness. O'Connor was out for the majority of last season
with a hip problem.
"Nothing is being said at the moment about a new contract.
The gaffer has got faith in me. It is just about people upstairs at the club.
I would love to stay at Birmingham. It's a fantastic club and I've enjoyed my time here and hope it can continue," he told Press Association Sport.
O'Connor is a very bullish striker and can offer Birmingham something special in attack. However, the club risks seeing him walk away for free in January if a new contract
isn't drawn up and signed.
A good player
O'Connor is a very good striker and there are many different reasons why it makes sense for Birmingham to keep him on. O'Connor is very strong and powerful and provides
a different option in attack to the pace and skill of attacking players like Cameron Jerome.
O'Connor is just coming back to full match fitness, which was one of the stipulations in his original deal that would earn him an extended contract. He played very well
during the 2-0 win over Blackpool last weekend and took his goal with real authority and class.
The problem Birmingham faces is delaying the matter until it's too late. O'Connor will be free to join any club when his deal expires in January. This would mean Birmingham
losing a key player and not getting a penny for his services.
"I've got to keep my head down and keep working hard.
But, if it doesn't happen for me here, I can move on being happy with my form at the moment," he added.
Betting advice
O'Connor is in good form and high on confidence. Back him to score in any game he starts or comes on as a substitute over the next few weeks.
