Garswood impressive at Newmarket
Garswood secured a comfortable victory in the CSP European Free Handicap (Listed Race) at Newmarket in England on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. The class-1 event had a cash prize of £20,982.70 for the winner.
The three-year-old colt was rated as the favourite to succeed in the race and entered with a starting price of 5 to 2. The bookies had shown immense confidence in his abilities and the punters also risked a lot of money on him.
He didn’t disappoint anyone of them and took the seven furlong race with ease. He was steady at the start and didn’t push too hard compared to some of the other challengers. However, he never allowed anyone to get away from him and stayed in the hunt until
the middle section.
Once he started pushing hard, no other runner was able to match his speed and he got into a commanding position very quickly. In the end, he managed to win the race by a comfortable distance of more than two lengths, making his team proud.
His trainer Richard Fahey stated, “He was always going to be a better three-year-old but you get frustrated when they get beaten in two maidens. We dropped him back in trip just to grab hold of him. He's so thick. He's been doing that to all my good horses
- I haven't got anything to go with him and he's the best we have by a long way.”
On the other hand, jockey Tony Hamilton was also pleased with the outcome of the race and believes that Garswood has got the ability to deliver stronger results in lengthy races too.
He stated, “I ride him every day and he does all his work like that. I don't see why he wouldn't go another furlong. He got there a bit early and was pricking his ears. He's a good horse, possibly the best I've ridden. I won on Wootton Bassett but he was
a 6f sprinter. This one is totally different and he looks as if he'll get the mile.”
Overall, the young challenger has participated in a total of five events, winning two of them whereas secured the runner up and third places once each.
