Garter Snake will not eat!?

Ok so I caught a garter snake about 2 weeks ago. I assumed it was not eating because it was in the process of shedding. So after it had completely shedded I bought minnows for it to eat. I put the minnos in a little bowl of water and the snake has not touched it at all. I put a small toad in the aquarium and I checked back and the toad was gone, so hopefully the snake had eaten it. I was wondering if the snake was not eating the minnows because it was found around the garden where there are no minnows nearby...so I was thinking that it has not been exposed to this type of food which is why it's not eating?

  1. hard to feed and there staple is not fish its toads and mice actually u can kill it by giving just minnows or trying to offer them in there water also wildcaught lives like 2 years at most unless u give perfect care

  3. they eat insects not fish, try crickets, meal worms, and slugs (small ones) and also it would be best to turn it loose...they need a heat rock or lamp as well, all in all the best thing you could to for this snake is to turn it loose.

  4. Put it back outside it will eat. It has been free all its life then you come alone and put it in a cage. Would you eat if someone did that to you?
