Garter toss?

How many of you did the whole garter thing? I had not planned on doing it but think I might want to now. What are good songs for it and how does it tie in to the whole bouquet toss? Can you be as exact as possible ie.. who arranges for it to happen - aside from telling the DJ what songs do we also tell him when we want to do it etc...?

  1. Usually the bride tosses the bouquet...then the groom takes the garter off the brides leg and tosses it to all the single guys...then whoever catches the garter puts it on the leg of whoever caught the bouquet... She of course later takes it off her leg and gives it back to the guy who caught it.

We are doing it and these are our songs

Groom taking the garter off -White Hot Chocolate "s**y Think"

Groom tossing the bouquet- Mission Impossible Theme

Guy putting garter on girl- "Wild Thing"

  2. Well I am skipping the bouquet toss.  Its a small wedding and nota  lot of single girls.  and I want to keep my bouquet, and a throw away seems like a waste.

Its up to him on the garder toss, he said he may want to go in and get it but them just keep it.  Again, not too mnay single guy guests!

  3. When we got married, we let the DJ handle that part. He announced it was time to throw the Bouquet, and I did....then he announced that he was going to do a little something different. He asked my husband to come over to him, he brought out a length of rope and tied his hands behind his back.  Then he brought out a chair and asked me to sit in it. Then he told us it was time for the garter toss. My husband had to get down on his knees and I politely lifted my dress and he had to take the garter off with his teeth. Although it sounds unbelievably embarrasing, it was actually hysterical. The crowded LOVED it!  It was something different and comical in the middle of everyone being so sober...trust me, the fun began after that because everyone was loosened up by the humor. No more wallflowers after that!

  4. We are not doing it. We have decided to do a dance instead. I haven't decided on a song, but we are asking all married couples to come up. After 30-60 seconds we will say if you have been married for under a year please have a seat, then 5 years, so on until the last couple is left. Then we are going to give the garter/bouquet to them and ask them for advise.

  5. Both the garter-toss and the bouquet toss stem from the old days, when the guests would tear off pieces of the bride's gown for luck. The tosses were to distract the crowd, so that the bride and groom could make a clean getaway.

  6. well first off make a list for him with the event and what song and at what time to do it,

we are doing "mc-hammer- cant touch this" for the garter toss

and then im doing the bouquet toss after with

    "girls just wanna have fun"

  7. I'm not doing it but you do it similar to the bouquet toss, usually right after.  Just let the DJ know when you are ready to do both, then do one after the other.  Usually people pick a s**y song but you can pick whatever you like.

  8. just be careful because my ex-wife did the garter toss and her stockings fells down and then her panties came loose and she tripped over them as they fell to her feet while she was dancing with her dad.

  9. I'm not going to do either.  I think it's a little embarrassing (especially for the people who catch them if they do not know each other).  Plus it takes time out of the reception that could be used for more dancing!

  10. The  DJ normally will ask you/suggest the recption order and will annouce it. You may ask him to suggest songs etc. DJ go to weddings all the time and can give you great info.

    Good luck

PS/ I'm not tossing anything at my wedding.  LOL!

  11. all this is really great advice. let me just add that you want to be aware of the ages of the guys and gals participating....my best friend's younger sister caught the bouquet and the groom's college friend caught the garter. no way was her father about to let a college-aged guy slip a garter onto ANY of her limbs! it kind of ruined the moment....and i'm not into the garter toss anyways.

  12. We did the garter toss to "Let's get it on".  We sat down with the DJ and did a list of songs to play and when to play them, he went through this will happen at x time and this will happen at x time. So, he knew exactly when to start it.  He said "All the single ladies out on the dance floor" and started playing the song for the bouquet toss. Then, he said "now its the men's turn" and started playing "Let's get it on" and I sat down in a chair while my my husband took off my garter, then he went to the head of the dance floor and tossed it to the single men. The best part is the adorable picture of him taking it off of me.

  13. i did it at my wedding.

for boquet toss we did "Girls just wanna have fun" by cyndi lauper. then for garter toss we did "Another one bites the dust" by Queen

  14. No garter toss, no bouquet toss at my wedding.

In fact, I've been to 4 weddings within the last 2 years and no one has done the garter/bouquet toss.

  15. i would not do the toss when i get married.im 28 now and i dont think there is going to be any single people left when i get maried lol just ask the DJ about the songs they are the experts in this!
