Gary Bettman performing his duties according to Hockey Hall of Famer Ted Lindsay -NHL Update
National Hockey League (NHL) commissioner, Gary Bettman, has come under some heavy fire by players ever since the work stoppage came into force following the expiration of the previous labour deal on September 15, 2012.
Many NHLers did not hesitate in letting the world know what they thought about their commissioner while some even wished death upon the seasoned official, while apologizing for their mistake later on.
One man thinks that Bettman is on the right track, well at least according to what his duties are under his job description as commissioner of the NHL, and that man is none other than Hockey Hall of Famer and former player, Ted Lindsay.
Wednesday was the day when Lindsay came out and told the players and anyone making such rude comments that they should control their tongues and show respect, which is something the commissioner has done all along. Professional work ethics are important
and Ted Lindsay has not hesitated in letting the younger generation of players know that.
"One thing that really has bothered me when I'm reading the paper on all of this is the way they're talking about 'that idiot Bettman', or any of the other stupid adjectives they've used to describe him," said Lindsay, according to ESPN. "They and the fans
and the media need to realize that Bettman is doing his job and fulfilling his responsibility to the owners, just like (NHLPA executive director) Don (Fehr) is to the players. The players need to respect and understand that. Don't go bad-mouthing Bettman like
that."
Another aspect that Lindsay endorsed was the statement made by Washington Capitals’ defenseman Roman Hamrlik, who advocated the need of voting to be done between the players in order to get a clearer picture of how the labour union should go about their
affairs in the process.
While Lindsay may definitely not be supporting a work stoppage in anyway, advocating the need of respecting others should be done regardless of the situation and by hurling rude words about others will only worsen the scenario even more.
It will be interesting to see how Ted Lindsay’s words affect the youngsters and their future actions.
