Gary Cahill to replace John Terry at Chelsea?
Recent reports reveal that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439, the 25-year-old Bolton Wanderers defender, could be on his way to becoming the first signing for Chelsea in the summer transfer window. The Blues have been linked with a host of players, but Cahill could beat all of
them if he signs for the Blues.
Chelsea face competition from their London rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham Hotspur for the highly rated England international. With the Blues already well equipped with central midfielders, it makes one wonder why Villas-Boas is in for Cahill.
Chelsea captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314, he has already started looking for replacements.
That is the only logical reason why Villas-Boas is targeting Cahill, since he cannot possibly be to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542. The 24-year-old Brazilian defender joined the Blues in the January transfer window last season and has proved to be exceptional.
Apart from managing to link up really well with Terry, Luiz proved that he could not only function as a defender but also as a goal scorer. He managed to score two goals in the latter half of last season, one against Manchester United and the second against
Manchester City.
It is for these reasons that one finds it hard to believe that Villas-Boas is looking for a replacement for Luiz. If anyone, it is Terry who will need to be replaced in a year or two, depending on whether or not he manages to retain his form.
The rest of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 and Bosingwa have not been in the best of forms recently, which is why they are likely to be offloaded.

Mourinho could make a bid for the 30-year-old England international if he is unable to land http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Coentrao. The Portuguese defender is also being targeted by Chelsea; his future will most likely decide that of Ashley Cole.
Cahill could be developed to be the next John Terry; he already has some of the qualities. The Englishman is a solid defender and has a consistent record for the various sides he has featured in. With the right amount of first team regular football with
a top side, he can be exceptional.
The former Aston Villa man made a switch to Bolton Wanderers after loan spells with Burnley and Sheffield United, both Championship sides, in the January transfer window of 2008. In his first season he went on to win the award for the Best Newcomer at the
Reebok Stadium.
He was also voted Players' Player of the Year the same year as he secured his place in the starting line-up. Since 2008, Cahill has gone on to make 111 appearances for Bolton in the English Premier League and has even scored 11 goals.
