A dominant outside performance enabled Panama overcome Canada 91-89 on Thursday in the second round of the 2011 FIBA Americas Championship. This loss put the Canadian squad out of the World Olympics Qualifiers contention.
Gary Forbes
Gary Forbes led Panama from the front. He played for the whole duration and erupted with 39 points for team Panama. His blitz also included five rebounds and six assists. Forbes excellent shooting (11 of 13) devastated Canada.
He went eight of 13 from the field and made four of seven shots from beyond the arc.
Ruben Garces
Ruben Garces recorded a double-double for Panama with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He shot 64 percent from the field and 88 percent from the free throw line.
Carl English
For Canada, Carl English was the best scorer with 24 points on an 80 percent shooting from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe.
Andrew Jay Rautins
Andrew Jay Rautins was the second lead scorer for the Canadian squad. He made 14 points, provided three assists and made four steals on the night.
Venezuela 92 – Uruguay 80
Venezuela prevailed over Uruguay 92-80 on Thursday night and settled for the fifth spot in their tournament.
Hector Romero
Hector Romero marshalled Venezuela to the victory with his game-high 23 points along with four rebounds and three assists in his 33 minutes stay on the court. Romero went eight of 10 from the field, one of two from the three-point
and four to five from the paint.
Oscar Torres and Greivis Vasquez
Oscar Torres and Greivis Vasquez also thumped 18 points each for team Venezuela.
Esteban Batista
Esteban Batista led team Uruguay with 22 points and eight rebounds, during his 38 minutes stay on the court.
Martin Osimani and Leandro Garcia
Martin Osimani and Leandro Garcia chipped in with 18 points apiece for Uruguay.
