What would you like to see done to him, something deserving, something suitable to the crime, or do you feel that he's innocent, as he still proclaims?

I have no opinion one way or the other about Glitter's innocence (I'm sick of reading about him to be honest), but your logic is flawed.

Just because he is guilty of one particular crime doesn't mean he's also guilty of another, completely different crime committed in another country.

Pete Townshend was done for child p**n (and got a pretty easy ride for it, compared to Glitter) - do you think he's travelling the world raping little kids too? What about Chris Langham?

As for "more charges in this country" - you mean the little gold digger who didn't exactly kick him out of bed at the time, but went to Max Clifford years later and sold her story to the News of the Screws? That was completely ridiculous, and was thrown out of court. Only the child p**n charges were ever credible, and he was caught bang to rights on that.

As for Glitter's sexual tastes, a famous lady who should certainly be in a position to know - Denise Van Outen - remains curiously silent on this topic.

It is just about within the realms of possibility that he's perfectly guilty of the child p**n crimes he was convicted for in Britain, but that he was stitched up in Vietnam and never laid a finger on anyone under 16. OK, it's a stretch, but it's possible.

Rather than submit all suspects to a kangaroo court of psychopaths adequately represented by the majority of answerers to any question concerning paedophiles, I suggest that we allow the law to follow its course.  Hysterical emotive arguments are very counter-productive, and innocence is presumed until guilt is proved beyond reasonable doubt.  The alternative (if people could allow their blood to come off the boil for just one moment) is for all of us to live in fear of arbitrary arrest based on hearsay.

What is his defence?

1.  that he didn't do it.  Now this was proved in a Vietnamese court.  Before applying the s*x offenders register, is there any doubt that the conviction is unreliable, for example that he did not have a fair trial? Considering the evidence, I think it unlikely.  However if this was Zimbabwe and a white man was standing trial, I would not be so sure.  Glitter's solicitor is right to test the law here, and if necessary an amendment to this law needs to be prepared to consider the reliability of foreign verdicts.

2.  that he did not know it was a crime, nor the penalties applicable in England.  Ignorance is no defence here, nor is it in Vietnam.

3.  that he was misled as to the age of the girl.  Although many oriental girls do indeed look younger than they are, if in doubt it is wise to double-check. Again ignorance is no defence.

4.  that paedophilia is not a crime.  That is true (and folk here ought to remember that).  However acting on impulses to harm or endanger a child certainly is.  Whether or not the child consented or was unharmed by sexual activity is considered irrelevant in law, and is a matter of opinion whether this is a defence.  Few people would argue it was.

5.  that the law concerning the s*x offenders register applies after he did it.  That law was passed in 1997.  The offences he was convicted of took place well after that.

Like the countries willing to offer the man sanctuary, I do think that options for defence are running out, and before long he will just have to accept his fate.

If anyone thinks that because he was caught convicted and sentenced that he is rehabilitated,they are living in cloud cuckoo land.Everything that I have ever seen or read about paedophiles,not admitting to any wrong doing is standard behaviour. I know we are all entitled to our opinions, but I am some what disturbed by peoples protection of him.

This is no one off, these crimes have been going on years & years, it's calculated he starts off downloading  images not just a few, 4,000 !! then goes on to carry out these fantasies on vulnerable children raping them of their innocence.

Just a minor point - he wasn't 'caught red handed', he was convicted on the evidence of the victims, fair and square, in a properly conducted trial. But the victims' evidence was not corroborated.

This doesn't mean we should have any doubt about his guilt, since he received a fair trial.

What should we do with him? How about put him on the s*x offenders register, and let the authorities do their job of ensuring he does not get the opportunity to re-offend. Vigilantism and a tabloid inspired hate-fest do nothing to protect children.

Protecting children is more important than mutilating Glitter, although it seems some of your answerers feel otherwise.

I think castration may be an answer.  Bring on the thumbs down but I think many paedophiles need help, not abuse.  Even as a Mum I feel some pity for someone who just can't help these odd feelings, there must be some way of helping/counselling etc which would benefit everyone and prevent incidents reoccurring... if anyone touched my boys I may change my opinion of course.
