Gary Gold joins Bath – Rugby News Update
Gary Gold has joined Bath as the new director of rugby, following his departure from the Newcastle Falcons, where he worked for the last four months, trying to make the club avoid a drop into the Championship from the Aviva Premiership.
"I'm really excited and I'm taking some good coaches with me as well," Gold told
Ballz Visual Radio. "Bath is a wonderful place and the west country in England is really the heart of rugby in the UK so I am really relishing the challenge."
Gold is considered to be a thorough coach with particular attention given to detail, and nothing is left to chance with the former assistant Springboks coach. He has a wealth of experience, having served in the capacity of a coach in the northern and southern
hemisphere. He will not be the only addition to the backroom staff at the club.
Besides Gold, he will be joined by Mike Ford, who is a former England defence coach, while Neal Hatley, who played as a prop for Ireland is going to be in the new look coaching team. Brad Davis will be ever present as well. It will be a change from the days
of Sir Ian McGeechan who left The Recreation Ground at the end of the season.
Gold was also quick to praise his former employers, the Falcons, where he worked in an interim capacity. Even though Falcons won the last game of the season by 4 points, they still finished last and their fate is out of their hands. However, Gold said that
the Falcons provided him the opportunity to coach in the Premiership and through this experience he was able to gauge how the top tier in England operates.
On the future ahead he said, It's a magnificent club and they have a new owner who has put his life and soul into the club. If you have a look at the facilities they have, they are ridiculously privileged, it's fantastic. They have everything they need and
there is no excuse for the club not to be successful."
It is an exciting time at Bath with so many changes happening.
