Gary Gold to bring new coaches to Bath – Rugby News Update
Gary Gold, the former interim coach of the Newcastle Falcons has been formally announced as the new director of rugby at Bath. He will also bring his own team, which includes Toby Booth, Neal Hatley and Mike Ford, while Brad Davis is the only survivor from
Bath’s coaching team for this season. The club bid farewell to Sir Ian McGeechan and Martin Haag from their backroom staff.
The Chief Executive Officer of Bath, Nick Blofeld, is excited at having a new look team management, and thinks it is a move in the right direction, which will allow Bath to become competitive in Europe once again.
"Gary has put together a very strong team with great experience," Blofeld said. "This also demonstrates the club's long-term commitment to being the best we can be and getting the most out of a talented squad."
"They have tremendous experience and complementary skills, especially with Brad Davis remaining as part of the coaching team."
Gold has domestic and international experience, having been part of the Springboks coaching set-up under Peter de Villiers, while recently he was coaching the Falcons, which should help him seamlessly take up his position with Bath.
He has also brought in a wealth of experience in Toby Booth, who was with the London Irish before swapping for Bath, and will work with the forwards. Hatley will work as a scrum coach, having previously coached at the Exiles with Booth. Ford who worked with
Gold at the Falcons will be the backs’ coach, and he will share his responsibilities with Davis.
Gold is excited to work with Bath, and he feels that he can make the club achieve their targets.
"It's a very ambitious club, with a great array of talent within the squad that I'm excited to be working with," Gold said. "There is a good culture developing here, and I'm keen to help further that with my own expertise and experience."
It will be a new challenge for the all the coaches that have joined Bath, and their previous experience in the Aviva Premiership should hold them in good stead for the season ahead.
