http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527 surprised at South Africa being dubbed “undercooked” – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 coach Gary Kirsten has expressed surprise at the recent remarks regarding the Proteas being “underdone” as they go into their upcoming Test series against England, claiming that the team has been through rigorous training in order to ensure
they are well-prepared.
“There was a lot of preparation that went into mapping out the time leading into the Test match. It’s like they’re saying an international cricket team is not prepared heading into a series; what do they want us to do? What is not preparing?” he asked.
The upcoming Test series provides the Proteas an opportunity to upset the Poms who are currently at the top of the ICC’s Test team rankings, and claim the spot for themselves. The Proteas are at number 3 on the points table, and players such as pacer Dale
Steyn have claimed that the team will be playing for nothing more than the ranking itself.
However, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 this year) and only recently wrapped up an ODI series against the Aussies, the Proteas played their last international series
in March, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
However, Kirsten insists that the team has fit in sufficient practice, enough to the point where he feels they might be “over-cooked”.
“We’ve worked the bowlers a lot in the last two weeks – there was a lot of physical work done ... in Switzerland, there’s been a lot of training almost to the point where I’ve been a little nervous because I felt we over-cooked them a bit, but we felt it
was needed,” Kirsten said.
In addition to training, the team has also played two warm-up matches against County teams. The first one was played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MV-Boucher-c2048, which marred
the game and led to his retirement from international cricket, the South Africans were unable to secure a conclusive victory, with the match ending in a draw.
The second game, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canterbury-c775, held a similar fate for the South Africans. While the Proteas’ team boasts an impressive line-up, players will need to ensure that they bring their best game to the field against England, who feature an equally
impressive squad, and come into the series with added match practice in comparison to the tourists. The first match of the series is scheduled to be played from July 19-23, at the Kennington Oval in London.
