Garry Kirsten is currently the head coach of the Indian national team and he is to stay with them until the 2011 World Cup as per his contract. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 had been hoping that they could bag a deal with him after 2011. However,
now, without any sponsorship this seems a bit farfetched for the Afrikaans to hire a coach who is probably the best in the world right now.
There are reports that the Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 and Sachin Tendulkar are big fans of the South African and want him to stay on even after the World Cup. In addition, Dhoni has been reported to have put pressure on
the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) to extend Kirsten’s contract after 2011.
The Indian national team has excelled tremendously under the coaching of Gary. It is a known fact that all South Asian teams suffer in the fielding department, many coaches have come and gone, having failed in teaching the Asian
teams how to field, but not Kirsten. He has succeeded where others have failed. The Indian team is now probably the best fielding side in South Asia, leaving behind http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
It has been just two years since Kirsten was assigned the coaching responsibilities of team India in 2008 and now Indian cricket is a success story. Within two years, Kirsten’s coaching techniques have made India the number one
team in Test cricket by toppling the mighty Australians.
Kirsten’s first series as the Indian coach was against his home country, South Africa, which ended in a draw. This was an impressive result considering the fact that South Africa were a lot stronger side than India in that clash.
Kirsten’s prized accomplishments as coach include India’s victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 after nearly forty years.
With such an impressive record as a coach, who would not want Kirsten to coach their national sides? The fact is that many South African players want their senior comrade to coach them. The South African Skipper Graeme Smith and
all rounder Jacques Kallis are said to be the main supporters of Kirsten.
Nevertheless, Kirsten has not committed himself to anyone yet and is keeping his options open until the end of his contract with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Now, what remains to be seen is whether India will release Gary Kirsten after the World Cup or not. Even if he is released by the Indians, the South Africans will have to play all their cards to convince him for coaching the home
side on a pay scale that will most likely be a lot less than what he is getting from India. This is because without a big sponsorship, Cricket South Africa will be in no position to offer Kirsten anything near his current pay scale.
