Gary Kirsten wants the Proteas to cut down domestic commitments – Cricket News Update
South Africa’s former player and new coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527, wants the players to reduce their domestic cricket workload and pay attention to fitness, coupled with preparations for international events, which hold immense importance.
Kirsten has voiced these concerns due to the cricketers’ engagements in the ongoing 50-over domestic tournament, which he fears, will not let them practice for the upcoming home Test series against Sri Lanka.
The coach wants all members of the national squad back in the training camp as soon as possible so that they can be ready to face the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 confidently.
Talking to the media today, Gary said, “We are three weeks out from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Test series and there is no four-day cricket. I’ve thought of a whole lot of different ways in which these guys can get some game time.”
He further told, “You are going to have individuals in the Test team who won’t play any sort of cricket from November 30 (when the league phase of domestic 50-over competitions ends) and it’s not ideal. There’s a not a whole lot I can do other than organise
a ‘pick up game’, we have to manage what is dished out at us.”
Having completed a bilateral home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 a couple of days back, most of Graeme Smith’s men have joined their respective domestic teams without caring for their fitness. They will have no time to rest and restore their energy for the Sri
Lanka series, which contains 3 Test and 5 ODI games, set to begin from December 19.
Kirsten considers it to be detrimental to South Africa's progress towards the top of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 rankings.
Having coached Team India during their successful World Cup 2011 campaign, Gary joined the African camp on the hard-pressed demands of the national cricket authorities. The veteran mentor aims at capacitating his former team to clinch the World Champions
title from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the 2015 edition of the showpiece tournament.
