Recently retired Manchester United defender and captain, Gary Neville said he did not think Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho would be replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. There has been speculation as to who will replace the Scotsman at Manchester
United, with Ferguson coming close to retirement.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been in charge of the Red Devils since 1986, making this his 25th year in the hot seat. He has surpassed Sir Matt Busby as the longest serving manager for United and during his reign has led the club to countless trophies,
making them one of the top sides in Europe.
However, the 69 year old Scottish manager is expected to retire soon and there have been countless rumors on who will succeed him. So far Mourinho is the favorite, following his success with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Inter Milan. He is currently at Real Madrid,
but has not been able to recreate his success with the La Liga giants.
His failure to win at Madrid could leave the Portuguese manager to look for a job elsewhere and having previously hinted on an English Premier League return, he does indeed seem like the perfect candidate for the job. It’s a known fact that Mourinho is interested
in taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.
During his time at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan Mourinho was asked whether he would consider a job at United, Mourinho replied, “I would consider going to Manchester United but United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson. If they do, then of course.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international admitted Mourinho was an exceptional manager and had been linked heavily with the job at Old Trafford but went on to say that everything was just speculation at this point. “There are many great managers and there's always
speculation about who's going to take over from Sir Alex.”
He continued, “I'm sure when the time does come, Mourinho is one of the candidates who will be mentioned because of the success he's had elsewhere. He's a character. You have to respect people for what they do and he's very good at what he does. He's been
successful wherever he's been.”
Mourinho has had a very successful career, making him one of the top and sought after managers in the footballing world. He has won the UEFA Champions League twice, with FC Porto and Inter Milan, along with countless domestic titles and cups.
Neville insisted it was pointless to think about who was going to replace Ferguson because he was certain the manager was not going to retire any time soon. He added, “But it doesn't come into my head at this moment in time as Sir Alex is still going stronger
than ever. It's a waste of time to start speculating who will take over from him.”
Manchester United are currently at the top of the English Premier League and still in contention for the FA Cup and the Champions League. If Ferguson manages to lead United to the Premier League crown, it will be his 11th domestic title with the
Red Devils.
