Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has urged his old teammate, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394, to carry on playing for the Red Devils.
Neville himself retired from professional football in February, 2011, as the 36-year-old was not able to maintain the fitness standards required to compete in the English game. However, Neville claims that his friend Scholes still has what it takes to perform
consistently at the top level.
Aged 36, Scholes certainly is in the twilight of his career but his performances for the Red Devils in the ongoing 2010/11 season haven been decent suggesting the veteran Englishman still has fuel left in the tank – Scholes has made 31 appearances in the
current campaign for United.
United manager, Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson, has offered Scholes a one year contract and the midfielder is certainly taking his time pondering over his options, either to retire from professional football or keep on playing.
United chief executive, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Gill, claims that Scholes might walk away from the game without making much fuss. On the other hand, Neville wants his old pal not to hang his football boots just yet.
He said, "If you watch him play and compare that to me in my last few months, you would see there is a complete difference. Having watched him, I would say carry on. If I had been playing at the ability level he reaches and making the contribution he still
makes in games, I would have done. But Paul is his own man. He won't be influenced by what I say."
In addition, Neville claims that Scholes has a cool head on his shoulders and will be looking at himself physically and mentally before making decision.
Scholes will be a part of Neville testimonial match against Italian side Juventus on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 as well.
The mood at Old Trafford is surely positive as the Red Devils are celebrating their 19th league title triumph after collecting 77 points from 37 fixtures. Furthermore, United are also looking forward to the UEFA Champions League final clash against
Spanish giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078 on May 28, 2011, at Wembley stadium, London.
