Gary Player named for PGA Tour's Lifetime Achievement Award – Golf News
Gary Player, one of the legendary golf players in the world, has been named as the 10th player to receive PGA Tour's Lifetime Achievement Award. He is already a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
He will be given the award because of his great contributions to the game of golf during his tenure on the PGA Tour.
Throughout his career, Player managed to earn 165 victories that include 24 on the PGA Tour and 19 on the Champions Tour.
Moreover, he managed to win nine major championships during his career. Also, he is the only non-American player to win all four major events during his career, also known as Grand Slam.
He was the third player in the history of the game to reach the mark of Grand Slam after Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen.
Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are the only two other players to do the same after him.
He will now join the pool of Arnold Pаlmer, Jаck Burkе Jr., Jack Nicklаus and President Gеorge W Bush, all of whom received the award earlier.
Player said that it is a great honour for him to be named for such a prestigious award. According to him, the game of golf provided him with a blessed life throughout his association with the sport.
Therefore, he has, in turn, tried his best to give back something to the game. He also said that he feels humbled to be listed among the great names, such as Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus and Gene Sarazen.
He firmly said that he will continue promoting and supporting the game until the last breath he takes on this earth.
“When I first arrived in America, I was not sure how I would be received as a foreign-born player, but the PGA Tour and the American fans were absolutely fantastic and made me feel like one of their own,” he said.
“It is difficult to put into words what that meant to me and my family, and I will always be thankful for the love and support I have received from this great country,” he added.
According to the PGA Officials, he will be given the accolade on May 9 at The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
