Gary Russell Junior to defend undefeated streak against Christopher Perez – Boxing News
Gary Russell Junior, the undefeated surging super featherweight, will defend his win streak against yet another decorated pugilist, Christopher Perez, the former WBC FECOMBOX featherweight champion, in a non-title 10-round bout which will be held on June
30, 2012.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view which will be televised live from Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, United States. The showdown is being organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.
The Saturday night event will also witness Cornelius Bundrage defend his IBF light middleweight title against Cory Spinks, headlining the pay-per-view. Gary, during a recent media interaction commented that he will put forth the Californian boxing fans a
memorable showdown.
Russell, 24, has been in a total of 19 bouts and has never lost even a single one. The young Capitol Heights lad has pinned 11 of his opponents by knockout and is coming off a spectacular first round knockout win over heavily experienced Heriberto Ruiz.
During the media workout, Gary was of the view that he wants to take on a man who is entering the ring with a winning mind set, adding that he will use his speed and power to overwhelm the Mexican proud.
Russell stated, “I don’t want to compete against someone who thinks he’s going to lose. I want to fight against a guy who thinks he can win. He’s used to guys pressing the action, so I’m not going to press the action. I’ll use my power and speed. I’m a versatile
fighter. I’m definitely not one-dimensional.”
Also known as ‘Mr.’, Gary further added that he loves the ring and is always ready and in great shape. The undefeated belligerent stated, “I’m always learning. I’m more mature mentally and physically. I’m always anxious to get in the ring. I love the ring.
I’m always in the gym…always ready and in shape.”
Gary’s Saturday night opponent, Perez, 22, has a bit edge over Gary as far as the experience is concerned. The Sinaloa proud has been in a total of 25 bouts, emerging victorious in 23.
Moreover, Christopher also possesses a pretty decent jab as he has thrashed 14 of his opponents via knockout. Also known as ‘Huracan’, Perez recently returned on the win track by grabbing a win over rookie Jesus Guerrero.
The bout will be a tooth and nail one and as far as the odds are concerned, Gary is the fan favourite as he possesses a flawless resume, southpaw stance and above all a decent knockout proficiency as well.
