Gary Shaw confirms venue for Timothy Bradley-Devon Alexander still undetermined
Despite published reports indicating that Miami’s American Airlines Arena will be the venue for a junior welterweight title fight between Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander, Gary Shaw says that promoters are still mulling over various locations for the
January 29 HBO event.
Shaw, who promotes Bradley, said that although there are several potential sites being considered, Miami is not one of them.
Previously Alexander’s promoter Don King said that Miami would be a suitable location.  However, as the fight is being promoted by two promoters, Shaw reminds us that one team can’t bind another to a venue without an agreement.
"Washington, D.C., New Orleans, Atlanta and Detroit are all sites that are being looked at," Shaw clarified. "There has been no discussion about finalizing Miami's American Airlines Arena. Zero. There are many sites that are under consideration.  At this
time, it is not even close to being a done deal. This is a co-promotion. There is not one party that can bind the other."
There was speculation early on that the event would be in Alexander’s hometown of St. Louis, out of which King currently promotes most of his cards.  However, it appears promoters will settle on an uncontested location not prone to fan bias.
The bout will be a unification title fight, for Alexander’s WBC junior welterweight title and Bradley’s WBO title.  Alexander currently also holds the IBF title, but the International Boxing Federation recently confirmed he may be stripped of it prior to
his Bradley fight for failing to sign on for a mandatory bout with Kaizer Mabuza.
Alexander’s camp settled on terms for the Bradley fight some time ago, but were slowed by Bradley’s side not being able to come to terms in a similarly punctual fashion.  Bradley was engaged in a dispute with promoter Shaw that almost foiled fight negotiations.
