http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Wilson-c1474 admits Ireland’s performance was “below par” – Cricket News Update
Lauding http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751’s Gary Wilson went on to admit that his team had failed to perform as per their capabilities.
“There's no question we didn't do ourselves justice in the opening game,” Wilson admitted.
“Bangladesh certainly played well, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakib-Al-Hasan-c2492 showing us just why he's the number one ranked all-rounder in world cricket, and Elias Sunny had such a fantastic spell (claiming 5-13), but we were well below par,” he observed.
Bangladesh, currently on a tour of Europe (which involves the series against Ireland, followed by only T20Is against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753), went into the game after having secured two consecutive wins in the tour matches that preceded the main fixtures.
The first T20I, played at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast on July 18, resulted in a massive 71-run win for the tourists. The home team won the toss and chose to field first, with Mushfiqur Rahim’s men grabbing the opportunity with both
hands.
Bolstered by the batting performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200 and Max Sorensen remained the only
Irish bowlers of note, claiming 2-wicket hauls each. However, their efforts were feeble in the face of a batting order which featured top all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
Ireland’s turn at bat held a similar fate for the hosts, who were unable to match up to the tourists. Wilson remained the top-scorer for his side, with an unbeaten 41. Barring his performance, skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ed-Joyce-c1417 (11), and Sorensen
(12) remained the only ones who managed to contribute double digit individual scores.
Debutant Elias Sunny, with figures of 5 for 13, remained the star of the Bangladeshi bowling attack, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Razzak-c41688 chipped in with a useful 2-wicket haul to restrict Ireland to 119 by the end of 20 overs.
The second game of the 3-match series, however, offers Ireland a chance to bounce back, and restrict their visitors from claiming a series win, and Porterfield’s men will be attempting to do just that today on July 20 at the Civil Service Cricket Club.
