Gas,newspaper and a toaster= Explosion?

I saw it in the bourne supremacy, he breaks a gas pipe leaking gas into the room, then he turns on the toasters and shoves a newspaper in the toaster, when the paper catches fire, explosion...

but would this actually work?

yeah, cause when the gas touches the fire from the burning newspaper, it'll blow.
