Question:

Gas Dryer - help to Disconnect!?

by  |  earlier

We are trying to disconnect the flex/gas line from our dryer. Seemed simple enough...just use a wrench and unscrew...but it seems to be stuck on there...maybe because it's so old.

Any tips how to disconnect any?

Any links to websites that might have some pictures that could help us out?

I know that technically we should get someone to do that for us, but we're confident the gas is shut off...and our new dryer in coming in 1 day...so we need to do this ourselves.

Thanks in advance!

  1. U need 2- wrench to accomplish this and it's part of the service when the delivery crew come and hook up ur new dryer.  U need 1 wrench to hold the shut off valve and 1 to the flex line connection and  hold steady to the valve and turn the other wrench to counter-clock wise to loosen the connection to the flex line.  Just make sure ur valve is closed to prevent leakage of gas.

  2. It's a very tight compression fitting. You may need 2 wrenches, one on the flexline, and one on the pipe to break it loose.

  3. It might be reverse threaded, righty loosy.

  4. when you get a new dryer  U should put on a new flex hose. So leave the old hose on the old dryer.

  5. On every flex gas supply line I've ever seen, whether it's a dryer or a range, there's always a female flare fitting nut on the flex line itself and a corresponding male brass flare fitting that is installed on the pipes at both ends.  You'll need a proper sized wrench to hold the end on the pipe and a good crescent wrench at least, to loosen the nut on the flex line to get it off the fitting.   They are all right  handed threads.    And don't ever count on the delivery guys to install and attach anything to anything so it will work.  Most of them are so afraid of a lawsuit if they help that they will barely get the merchandise inside the door.
