Gas + Fountain Drink Machine?

Question

help me to understand this. I work at a gas station and we use CO2 (Carbon dioxide) to power our fountain machine (as does every other place I work that has a fountain). Why use a tastless, odorless gas (that can be lethal under extreme doses) when you can use a safe source such as oxygen or some other gas that has no potental of being lethal?

Don't know but what I do know  is that if you take a straw and push the fountain drink handle take he straw and suck in the white looking liquid and you will get high
