Question:

Gas Mileage in a Toyota Corolla (2003-2005)?

I am thinking of trading in my 2003 Ion for a 2005 or 2007 Toyota Corolla because of better gas mileage. I am trying to get some real numbers from real people. I do about 75% of my driving in city. For those who have a Corolla (2005 or newer) what kind of gas mileage are you getting?

PS: I have looked at fueleconomy.gov already, great site but still want more information.

Thanks to everyone who answers

  1. According to this site, the 2005 Corolla EPA numbers are 32 mpg/city and 40 mpg/highway.

  2. You can determine your own gas millage by dividing miles driven by gallons used.  I do this every time I fill up because I drive an old car and the gas gauge is a little messed up.  Next time you fill up, fill up all the way then reset your trip odometer.  after a week of normal driving, or when you are at about half a tank fill up again.  Then divide the miles you drove by the gallons it took to fill up.  This will give you your REAL millage, not EPA estimate which I have seldom seen to be correct.

    Example: 200miles/10gal of gas = 20 mpg.

It would be cheaper for you to pay off you Ion.  Then you would automatically save about 300 a month.  Its cheaper for me to drive an Blazer that gets 20mpg with no payment than if I bought a Prius.
