  1. Those cars of 15-20 years ago that got good mileage would never pass the safety and emissions standards we have today. Would you rather be alive or spend a few less bucks at the pump.

  2. I think more people are doing it now. But people want to both 'green & mean at the same time. The upcoming Chevy volt is a prime example. It's a corvette like car that uses plug-in hybrid technology. But still somehow gets something like 50 mpg due to its use of lithium-on battery tech. People seem to want their cake and have it too if they can get things that way.

  3. Car makers produce vehicle based on customer demands.

When American car buyers are asked what they desire in a vehicle, the top two answers are size and power.  Size and power do not translate into high fuel efficiency.

However, as fuel cost increase, buyers will have more incentive to buy more fuel efficient cars.  That demand will then be met by the car companies.

In Europe, where fuel costs exceed 8.00 per gallon, there are many small cars with high fuel efficiency.

  4. Time to go out and buy a horse and a wagon

  5. most people don't have the money to buy a car of that sort. Also, most people do not care. sad but true

  6. They can but until now there was little incentive for people to buy them

  7. THEIR'S A CAR MADE IN INDIA THAT COSTS $2500 AND GETS 50 MILES PER GALLON AND THEIR COMING HERE. ALSO IF EVERYONE IN AMERICA STOPS BUYING GAS AT MOBILE. EXXON, TEXACO AND SHELL OR THEIR AFFILIATES, LIKE ESSO, STANDARD ETC. FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. THEN THIS WILL START A GAS WAR. AND THESE BIGGEST OIL COMPANIES DONT WANT TO MISS OUT OUT ALL THESE PROFITS, SO THEY'LL DROP THEIR PRICES AND OTHERS WILL FOLLOW. IVE SEEN 'GAS AS LOW AS 14.9 CENTS A GALLON, BUT IN THIS TIME I'D SAY $2.00 A GALLON, BUT EVERYBODY HAS TO BUY THEIR GAS FROM OTHER COMPANIES FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR TO MAKE IT WORK.

  8. it takes a few years to design and make new car models.

keep in mind, how fast hummer sales increased.

why would they make small cars?

btw, gas is not soooooooo expensive today.

this chart shows the history, and the steep increase in this century will continue.

    you'll see $10 a gallon, probably by 2012.

    $20 a gallon before 2020.

don't by an SUV this year.

it won't be long before you won't be able to give it away.
